1981 - Renaldo Nehemia of Zurich, Switzerland, set a world record by completing 110 hurdles in 12.93 seconds.

1995 - Bobby Thigpen of Chicago White Sox fame became the eighth and fastest to record 40 saves in a single season.

1995 - Mike Tyson defeated Peter McNeeley in only 89 seconds.

1996 - Paul Molitor of Minnesota Twins was in tie with Lou Gherig in career double.

2002 - John Madden started his Monday Night Football.

2004 - Bud Selig, who was the MLB baseball commissioner, was given a contract extension through 2009.
