There is evidence so show that Australia started participating in rugby in 1080s. They even formed their own team and started taking part in tournaments in England and Ireland.
Women’s rugby team was also formed early in Australia and today their women’s team play with at par with the United States and England. However, cricket is the national sport in Australia.
