Togo: World Cup Soccer

When the list for first year attempters is presented, Togo will be at the top of the list for the World Cup 2006 soccer tournament. The Togo team has never been at the World Cup in the history of the tournament, so they are quite the underdogs indeed. They obviously lack the experience needed to become champions of the World Cup, however they are well on their way to racking up those experience points.

Emmanuel Adebayor is the player that helped the Togo team to the World Cup. He is quite a player and scored 11 goals in qualifying. He has what most talented players lack: desire and drive to score. His raw need to win is something to be admired and feared at the same time.

Fans should also be on the lookout for Jean-Paul Abalo, who is the most experienced player on the Togo team and the leader the other teammates will be looking to for guidance and composure. Perhaps his experience can make up for the inexperience of his teammates, although it is not likely to make that big of an impact overall.

Although Togo is not expected to get past the first round, they are making their debut in the World Cup soccer tournament which will give them added experience to try again another year. In fact, with this type of experience gained, they may come back with a vengeance next time. So, although they are not being completely counted out, they are not expected to fair well. In fact, it was quite a shock that they qualified at all.
