Mexico: The World Cup

Mexico comes into the World Cup soccer tournament in second place of the CONCACAF qualifications. They fell behind the United States in the qualifying rounds. The Mexico team has shown themselves 12 times since the start of the World Cup tournament and has never made it past the quarter finals. This is shocking to some critics because the Mexico team is usually ranked high.

In the past, the Mexico team will play strong and hard up until the quarter finals. Then they seem to lose their will and succumb to the other teams without too much of a fight. It is as if they are never conditioned enough to withstand the rigorous tournament schedule in the World Cup soccer tournament.

The Mexico team is young and full of great players. They are putting a lot of pressure on Oswaldo Sánchez to perform well as goalkeeper. He is a youthful player however and has never played in the World Cup, although he has been there three times. Jared Borgetti is the Mexico team’s leading scorer and the team will be looking to him for some major points as well. Without question however, Rafael Márquez is the star player on the Mexico team who is expected to really hold up the back and lead Mexico toward their wins.

So, if Mexico can mentally prepare and know they are worthy of winning the World Cup, they might have a good showing. But, if they come in as fearful as they have in the past, they might as well leave as soon as they arrive.
