Ecuador: World Cup Soccer

Another underdog of the World Cup soccer tournament this year is Ecuador. Ecuador has only appeared one other time in the World Cup soccer tournament in 2002 and they were eliminated quickly. The interesting thing about their road to this year’s World Cup is that they beat both Brazil and Argentina to get there in the qualifying rounds. With Brazil and Argentina both being at the top of the list of rankings, it is shocking that Ecuador, which is ranked well into the 30s was able to pull out the wins over these two incredible teams.

Agustín Delgado is the team’s popular striker who is expected to help lead them team past the first round this year at least. However as powerful as this player has the potential of being, he has suffered with many back injuries and may not be at his prime.

The main thing the Ecuador team has on their side is their team spirit. This is a team that cannot be broken. They know they are the underdogs, but they will likely come with everything they have. They will come in like champions in spirit. They have what it takes to mentally win the World Cup, but they may be lacking the experience and talent.

So, if the Ecuador team gets past the first round, the whole world will likely pay attention to see if the tournament’s biggest underdogs are actually going to make an impact on the World Cup 2006. Only time will tell if this will be Ecuador’s year to pull out a few more wins than in the previous attempt.
