Problems With 2010 World Cup

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is being held in South Africa from June. It is for sure a moment of pride for the country but this does not come without its own problems. For instance, accommodation for visiting fans will be difficult and that is why Zimbabwe is being promoted as likely option with fans.

The Football World Cup in South Africa would attract visitors from all over the world. Unfortunately, South Africa is poorly organized with its hotel system and accommodation is going to be one of the major problems. A lot of fans would need to find accommodation with local families that serve as Bed and Breakfast kind of option. This option may not suit everyone who is attending the tournament.

In addition, camping is not a viable option as South Africa gets very cold during the months of June and July when World Cup will be played. Therefore, the budget soccer fan is going to have a tough time finding appropriate accommodation. Nonetheless, efforts are on to provide camping sites for fans who are brave enough to tolerate the extreme cold.

The other problem with the 2010 World Cup is the transportation system in South Africa. The country has poor public transport system and none of the stadiums are close to the so-called tourist areas. Therefore, resident fans will find it difficult to make their way to stadiums when their respective countries are playing. It is believed that this could cause many of the matches to start late so that fans can make it to the stadium before the official kick off time.

However, what one should remember is that media makes things sound worse that they actually are. They did it for Olympics in Beijing too. However, the Olympics went of quite well in the end. So, similarly not many of us have insights into South Africa and how much accommodation is actually available in the cities hosting the various legs of the 2010 World Cup. One thing is for sure, it does not make sense for a fan to stay in a hotel that is miles away from a stadium.

Hopefully by the time the 2010 FIFA World Cup is hosted, South African authorities and FIFA governing body will work together to ensure that these problems are overcome.
