Ohio Remains No.1The Buckeyes took another decisive victory over ranked No.13 opponent, Iowa. Ohio State, No. 1 since the preseason, managed to beat Iowa 38-17 on Saturday and received a season-high 62 first-place votes. They had 1,622 points in the media poll after their victory. The Buckeyes faced already three ranked teams in September, which are Texas, Penn State and the Hawkeyes. The team beat them all by at least 17 points. Ohio State, which extended the nation's longest current winning streak to 12 games, will not face another team now ranked until their season finale against Michigan on Nov. 18. None of the teams in the top 10 lost last week; therefore the first 10 spots in the poll remained unchanged. No.2 was Auburn followed by Southern California, West Virginia, Florida and Michigan at No.6. Texas, LSU, Louisville and Georgia completed the top ten. No2. Auburn got a 24-17 win at South Carolina last week, increasing its lead on current No3. USC by six points to 28. The Trojans also beat Washington State 28-22. Auburn won over Washington State at home 40-14 to open the season. In the USA Today coaches’ poll, No. 1 Ohio State was followed by USC at No. 2 and Auburn at No. 3. West Virginia was fourth and Florida fifth. In the Harris poll, Ohio State, USC and Auburn took the first three spots. Michigan followed at No. 4 and West Virginia and Florida are tied for fifth. Those Harris and coaches’ polls are used in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) standings, along with computer rankings. The first BCS ranking of the season will be publicly released on Oct. 15th.
