Some health and medical institutions have surveyed the good and bad effects of martial arts on people. The main focus of the medical research was to study the health benefits of learning various types of martial arts like Tai Chi, Karate and Tae Kwon Do which are all very popular forms.

Here are some of the benefits that have been indicated clearly as a result of medical research on martial arts.
 

It was found that Tai Chi could help older people improve their balance and reduce the chances of falling. This study was conducted by the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.  It was found that older people who participated in a 15-week Tai Chi course showed reduced chances of falling and the risk of falling was reduced by almost 47.5 percent.

As a result of the course, people learnt to improve their balance and strength, and these improvements lasted over a 6-month period provided the participants continued the Tai Chi exercises for the full 15-week period. These results allowed the researchers to conclude that Tai Chi could be recommended as an aerobic As a result, it was determined that Tai Chi could be recommended as a suitable aerobic exercise for elders.

Among all the forms of martial arts, Tai Chi was easier and suited for all types of patients. It required lesser strength but showed improved results. Also, most of the martial arts styles involve meditation and organized movements. During the exercise, the heart rate, blood pressure and sugar in the body get normalized. The whole purpose of the martial art is to stabilize the body condition and maintain equilibrium.

The medical research concluded that when such martial arts are performed on a daily basis, the body shows improved results. This clearly proves that martial arts are a highly effective form of exercises.
