HOCKEY – Oilers: Four-Year Extension for Moreau – October 10, 2006

The Oilers decided to grant to its player Moreau a four year extension. For sure job security is something Ethan Moreau, the eleven-year veteran, will not have to worry about for a while. Moreau signed on his first game of the season a four-year contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers on Friday. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed for the deal, which will run through the 2010-11 campaign.

Moreau has been drafted 14th overall by Chicago in 1994. He was traded to Edmonton in March 1999 and has playing with the Oilers ever since. In 469 games with the team, the 31-year-old left wing has recorded 83 goals, 75 assists and 538 penalty minutes.

Edmonton general manager Kevin Lowe congratulate the whole organizing staff to make this extension happened and expressed his gratitude to the player to stay with the team. According to Lowe, time and the results proved than Ethan has a key role in the team’s performance and that he is one of the team's leaders. His commitment to his teammates and the game could be seen every time he steps on the ice. He has been an integral part of the Oilers' success in last season's playoff drive and the team is looking forward to his continued leadership.

During the season 2005-06, Moreau recorded not less than 11 goals and 16 assists in 74 games, finishing third in the league with seven shorthanded points. In addition he registered two tallies and an assist in 21 postseason contests as the Oilers came within one victory of the Stanley Cup championship.

During the season 2003-04, Moreau scored a career-high 20 goals in 2003-04. In total in his career the player has collected 116 tallies and 223 points in 679 games with the Blackhawks and Oilers.
