Women Golfers

For a long time, golf was thought of as dominantly a man's sport. But in 1950, a group of women founded the LPGA, which is a tournament just like the PGA but designed for women golfers to show off the fact that they are just as good as the male players. It is now the oldest ongoing professional sports organization for women in the United States.

Nancy Lopez, who has been playing since 1977, credits her fame and popularity to playing in the tournaments of the LPGA. Her ongoing strength and talent in this sport have kept her a solid performer still to this day, with three major career victories to show for it.

Women golfers have qualified and played on the PGA tour but it usually is seen as controversial and puts the participating ladies at a bit of a mental disadvantage. Michelle Wie is an exceptional player who has participated in three PGA Tour events but was eliminated before the final two rounds. She is a determined lady who still has her head up, ready to try and get further in the next PGA Tour event that she qualifies for. Women golfers have always been about maintaining fair competition and being positive role models for women who play gold all around the world.
