San Francisco 49ersSan Francisco 49ers: Preseason Analysis The San Francisco 49ers had a bad year last year, with a losing record. With a new coach, Mike Nolan, the owners were hoping for much better. This year things might look a little more hopeful for the team overall, that is hoping for a winning season. Alex Smith continues to be the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, but don’t be surprised to see him benched for the newly acquired veteran Trent Dilfer if Smith doesn’t bring his best game every time. Bryant Young, the leader of the defense, has his work cut out for him this year. The defensive players look to be young and inexperienced and Bryant will have to really step it up to get them to apply themselves like professional players. Their running back, Kevan Barlow is not really meant to be a starter, so he may struggle with the pressure of trying to carry this young team to victory. The 49ers did recently sign Tom Rouen as their punter. He comes from the Seattle Seahawks and is a veteran to the NFL. He has a strong leg that will likely be much needed throughout the season. The team waived their punter Tom Malone in favor of Rouen, which was likely a smart move overall. Overall the San Francisco 49ers are not expected to do that much this season. They are simply lacking the talent and determination they need to win. They are also lacking veteran leadership that is so important for a winning season. |
