NFC Teams
Looking Ahead With The NFCFootball junkies are well versed with the two conferences of the NFL, but most eyes automatically stray to the NFC. Perhaps the reason may be found in the three expansion teams that joined the NFC since the NFL’s merger with the AFL in 1970, or maybe the fact that during this 2006 season the teams of the NFC East division will play one game each against every team that is a member of the NFC South and the AFC South. Of course, the line-up of the teams may have something to do with it. Take for example the NFC East which contains the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, and Washington Redskins. Who can resist the lure of the Redskins who had a sensational season last year when –after three losses- they managed to leave the Cowboys, Giants, and Eagles in their dust? The NFC North has quite a few irresistible teams as well. There are the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. Perhaps it is the morbid fascination that fans hold for the Vikings and their antics last year – the term “Whizzinator” comes to mind – but many fans look to them with a mixture of disgust and hope. The latter since the new head coach Brad Childress is known for running a tight ship! The New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are all part of the NFC South, and the team to watch is Tampa Bay. Linebacker coach Joe Barry has an uncanny knack for bringing out the best in Derrick Brooks, who ended up leading the team when it came to tackles. Last but not least is the NFC West which has the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks which are probably capturing everyone’s attention since they released Tom Rouen, a veteran punter who admittedly did not have full seasons in 2004 and 2005. |
