Detroit LionsDetroit Lions: Preseason Analysis Like every other team in the NFL, the Detroit Lions are hoping for a great year. The team is really not looking that impressive, once again, however. There are already questions surrounding their starting quarterback, Jon Kitna. Kitna comes from the Bengals and has been a backup quarterback for most of his career. Critics wonder if he has what it takes to handle the pressure of leading the Lions to a winning finale. The good news for Jon Kitna is that Mike Williams and Roy Williams are both back in the wide receiver positions. They both have amazing hands and can really carry the ball well. So, at least Kitna can be sure that his top receivers will be on hand to assist him in any way they can throughout the season. In addition, star tight end Marcus Pollard should help a lot as well. With a new coach, Rod Marinelli, the Detroit Lions might be in for a little adjusting however. Although Marinelli is the head coach, his offensive coordinator, Mike Martz is likely more impressive in resume. Martz was the head coach for the Rams last season and comes to the Lions coaching staff with a great amount of knowledge and love for the game. Even though the Lions are trying hard to get back on track, they are not that likely to have a winning season this year. Unless they really pull it together in ways that are completely unforeseen by most experts of the sport, they will just have to chalk this year up as a rebuilding year and hope for better in the next season to come. |
