Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears: Preseason Analysis

There is one thing to be said about the Chicago Bears: they have the best defense in the NFC, by far. Their defense, led by linebacker Brian Urlacher is simply among the most impressive units in NFL history. They can stop their opponents faster than any other, which makes them quite intimidating to most teams they play. They have the mental capabilities to intimidate and the physical capabilities to follow through.

One of their weak points is their quarterback Rex Grossman. Although he is talented enough, he can’t seem to stay completely healthy enough to play that well. When he gets sacked he ends up getting hurt badly. With a history of broken bones from sacks, the coaches, players, and fans only hope he will be healthy enough to start.

Grossman can breathe a little easier now however as the Chicago Bears did pick up Mushin Muhammad, a great wide receiver, in the free agency. He should provide Rex Grossman with a great option down the field.

However, the team did pick up a healthy backup quarterback, Brian Griese, so even if Rex Grossman does get injured, they will have someone to fall back on. And just like the Vikings learned when Culpepper was injured and Brad Johnson stepped in, sometimes backup quarterback can really step up to the plate. Experts are speculating that if Griese does step up to the plate, there may even be a little quarterback controversy in the air.

The Chicago Bears made the playoffs last year and will likely do the same this year. As long as their offense can hold it together, at least a little bit, they will be a team to fear in their division.
