Roethlisberger is Back

by Chris Bibey
2006-07-31

The Pittsburgh Steelers held their first training camp practice on Sunday, and there was one guy that everybody had their eyes on. That’s right, Ben Roethlisberger. Just a few short weeks ago it appeared that Roethlisberger was in deep trouble after crashing his motorcycle on his way to the Steelers headquarters in Pittsburgh. But since then he has recovered quicker than anybody thought possible.

So it is safe to say that Roethlisberger will be ready to go for the season opener. But a bigger question is brewing in the heads of Steelers fans everywhere. Is Roethlisberger going to be able to play at the same level as he did last year? Most fans will tell you yes. And of course they are saying this because they are hoping above all else that this is true.

But the fact of the matter is that Roethlisberger was in a life threatening crash, and required hours of surgery to get put back together. This is not to say that he is going to be any different this year, but that first big hit from a defensive lineman may take a bit out of him.

Roethlisberger contends that he is feeling great, and he will be ready to go. It is obvious to onlookers that Roethlisberger feels good, but it has been mentioned that he may be a bit overweight. The good thing is that he will have plenty of time to work through this as camp moves forward.

All in all, it should be interesting to see if the Steelers can repeat with Roethlisberger at the helm. For the sake of Steelers fans everywhere, let’s all hope that Roethlisberger does not injure himself during the season. At this point it appears that he has had just about as much as he can take in that department.
