2006 Preseason Analysis

NY Jets - 2006 Preseason Analysis

The NY Jets are still a bit shady looking this season. They have a lot of the components they need to be a great team and to make a strong showing this NFL season, but whether or not everything will come together as it should is another thing to consider. Head Coach Eric Mangini is taking on his very first professional head coaching position. He will have his hands full with the Jets and may not be able to make the cut as a NFL head coach.

The good news for the New York Jets is that Chad Pennington should be back and in top form this season. The quarterback was out for most of last season due to a rotator cuff injury. So, the Jets had to move on without him. Chad Pennington is a huge part of the talent of the New York Jets however and will be a great asset when he returns.

Although Pennington can hold up the offense quite well, the team might still need to find a younger running back. Curtis Martin is their current starting running back and he does have the experience one needs to be great. However he is 33 years old, which is ancient in NFL running backs. He has always reached 1,000 yards each year. But last year he failed to do that, signifying he might be losing his magic on the field.

So, there is really no telling how the New York Jets will fare this year. If Pennington can pull his team together and show the leadership they will need under a new head coach, the Jets might do fine. Otherwise they will likely fall apart quickly.
