HOME >> FOOTBALL >> AFC >> BROWNS Charlie Frye: Coming into his Ownby Chris Bibey Cleveland Browns quarterback Charlie Frye started to come into his own at the end of the 2005 season, and fans are looking to see if he can continue this feat early on in 2006. With the bursts of talent he showed late last year, there is no reason to think that he should not be able to contribute in big ways this season. Even though he only played in the final seven games of last season, Frye’s job as the starting quarterback is secure at this time. He finished 2005 with a quarterback rating of 72.8. This is not great, but at the same time it gives him something to build on this season. In addition, he threw for 1,002 yards, and four touchdowns. To go along with this he threw five interceptions. With the return of Kellen Winslow to the lineup after injury, Frye will have at least one extra target to look at this season. In addition, Winslow should also help out with some of the blocking duties when the Browns go to the running game. And speaking of running the ball, it is important that they do so with success as to keep opposing defenses off balance. This way, Frye will have plenty of time in the pocket to make decisions. Overall, Frye is being looked at to take the Browns to the next level. This may not be fair for a player that is only in his second season, but fans and coaches are relying on him. Frye has his work cut out for him as the AFC North is one of the most competitive conferences in the entire league. |
