Who Invented Football ?

Football is a sport that stands for America’s pride and displays the strength of an athlete. In many other countries, football is a different game and that game is called soccer in America. However, when Americans refer to football, it means that the quarterback throws a ball to any one person in his team and the rest of the team runs around the gridiron.

Football that is played in Europe is the same as soccer, where the team runs around the field kicking a ball leading it to the goal.

So, American football is totally a different “ball game”. The "Father of American Football" is Walter C. Camp. He was a sports writer and a football coach. He was the one who invented football. His name is legendary in the annals of American football.

American football is basically an off shoot of rugby. A lot of rules have been borrowed from rugby and applied to the game. For example, in rugby, five players line-up and this is called this scrum. While in football, seven guys form a line, and it is called the line of scrimmage.

However, American football has been very controversial because several countries claim that they invented it. The lists of countries include Canada, Italy, China, and England. England puts a claim to the game because rugby originated in the country. The Chinese claim a form of American football was played in their country thousands of years ago. However, today soccer, football and rugby are quite popular in the United States of America and all three are played at national level. But it is football that is considered to be the overall leader.
