Atlanta Braves

Can anyone else believe that the Atlanta Braves are in jeopardy of not winning the division? After all, they have dominated the National League East for more than a decade. If they do not pick things up in a hurry this will be the first time in a very long time that the Braves fail to make the play offs. Things will not seem the same if they miss out this year.

At this time, the Braves are 11.5 games out of first place and are trailing the red hot New York Mets. It seems that in 2006 the Mets have done everything right while the Braves have done just the opposite. Can they catch the Mets and make a run at the title? Sure! But is it likely? No!

The problem with the Braves this year can not be pinpointed. Tim Hudson came into the season expecting to be the ace of the staff and at times he has looked like it. But in most cases Hudson has been inconsistent at best and this has put the Braves in a bad spot.

At the plate, Marcus Giles is struggling mightily at the leadoff spot. He is supposed to be the guy that gets everything started, but instead he has been dismal at best.

The Braves have never quit before and this year will be no different. If they want to make a run at first place again they will need to chase down the Mets and over take them down the stretch. It should be a fun ending in the NL East.
