Arizona DiamondbacksAt this point in the season the Arizona Diamondbacks should be happy with where they are at. Sure, every team wants to be in first place but the fact of the matter is that it is not possible. Going into the all star break the Diamondbacks had themselves in position to make a run at the play offs throughout the second half of the season. The Diamondbacks are currently three games out of first, and only trail the San Diego Padres. If they are going to make a run at the play offs they are going to need to sure up their pitching a bit. In the first half of the season the Diamondbacks starting pitchers were adequate at best. Sure, Brandon Webb has looked good but the rest of the starting staff is lacking. As far as the bullpen is concerned it appears that the Diamondbacks are set. Like most teams they will be looking for pitching help as the trade deadline nears. If they can find a guy to plug in down the stretch they will give themselves the best chance of catching the Padres. Overall, the Diamondbacks are hanging tough in a division that is not up this year. But even though the division is having a down year the Diamondbacks still need to find a way to get to the top. As mentioned before the only way that this can be done is by adding to the pitching staff and letting them take the brunt of the load until the end of the season. |
