Cleveland IndiansWith the way the Indians have been playing in 2006, it is safe to say that they are more concerned with the trade deadline than they are with making the play offs. In addition to a less than spectacular first half of the season, the Indians also have to contend with the likes of the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox in the American League Central division. This makes for a very tough schedule, and even more difficult if you are trailing by 21 games like the Indians. It is hard to argue with the amount of production that the Indians have gotten at the plate from guys like Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner, and Victor Martinez. These guys have really shown that they belong in the big leagues, and they should provide a solid nucleus for next year’s team. The pitching staff got off to a very slow start that put the Indians behind the eight ball from the start, but they have gotten everything in order as of late. But the fact of the matter is that they are too late. With the way the bullpen has continued to struggle the Indians cannot expect to make any sort of ground up on the division leaders. Even though the Indians do not have much to look forward to the rest of 2006, they have a good, young core of players to rely on next season. If they can get any help before the trade deadline they should be in even better shape heading into the off season. |
