Boston Red Sox

At this point in the season the Boston Red Sox are leading the American League Eastern division. But does anybody really know how long this is going to last? The Yankees are currently a half a game out of first place, and right behind them are the Blue Jays who are only three games back. This means that if the Red Sox stumble even the slightest bit they are going to lose their spot atop the division. And to take this a step further, if they go on a losing streak they may end up missing the play offs altogether. It is safe to say that this is the toughest division in either league, and it makes for a stressful end of any season.

Right now the Red Sox are sitting pretty with the big bats of Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz at the plate. They will help to give the Red Sox the power that they need down the stretch. To go along with this they have also developed a bullpen that is very strong and does not blow too many games. This is going to be crucial down the stretch. In addition, the starting rotation has been strong up to this point as well.

Overall, the Red Sox are hanging on to first place but every night they have to worry about being over thrown by the likes of the Yankees or Blue Jays. As the race for the AL East title heats up the real winners are the fans.
