Baltimore OriolesThe Baltimore Orioles are not having the best of seasons, but at only seven games under .500 they are not as bad off as some of the teams in the league. But the fact of the matter is that if you are competing in the American League East division you are going to have to do better than that. Day in and day out you are going up against teams like the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays. This makes for a very tough division and one that cannot be won with a poor record. The main problem with the Orioles so far in 2006 has been their pitching staff. They lack a steady rotation, and nobody has stepped forward to take command. In turn this has led to the Orioles having the second worst ERA in the league; something that needs to be improved upon if they are every going to compete with the likes of the Yankees. As the trade deadline closes in watch out for the Orioles. They are sure to be making some moves, but more than likely they will be doing so to unload some high salaries and make way for some younger players. Overall, the Orioles look doomed for the last few months of the season. They are chasing after three teams that are among the best in the league and will not lose too many games down the stretch. It is safe to say that the Orioles are already looking forward to the 2007 season. |
